North American birch is a large tree with a fragrant inner bark. It is the real source of the “wintergreen” essential oil used for chewing gum, breath mints, and many medicines because true wintergreen is much more expensive. Birch essential oil is also the main ingredient in the men’s fragrance “Russian Leather,” so named because the Russians used birch oil to keep their leather book bindings soft and free of insects. Note: Due to the supply of the raw materials, some oils may not be available during certain times of the year.
