Cranberry Sauce Spiced with Glühwein

Cranberry Sauce Spiced with Glühwein

1 cup sugar
1 cup prepared Glühwein, as per recipe on CuisineMentor German Glühwein package
4 cups (12 oz package) fresh or frozen cranberries
Optional: Pecans, hazelnuts, walnuts, orange peel, raisins, currants, blueberries.

Wash and pick over cranberries. In a saucepan heat Glühwein and sugar, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add cranberries, return to a boil. Reduce heat, simmer for 10 minutes or until cranberries burst.

At this point you can add any number of optional ingredients. Half a cup of roughly chopped nuts, raisins or currants or add up to a pint of fresh or frozen blueberries. Remove from heat. Cool completely at room temperature and then chill in refrigerator.
Makes 2 1/2 cups.
